Chico started as drummer at the age of 14, being self-taught at that time. At first, the interest sprang from all the bands being created in the school he attended. At 15, in 1984, he began playing with Eloy and Ruy Fritsch in what was the soon-to-be Apocalypse group. At the same year, he took part in a student festival in his home town, being awarded the title of Best Instrument. This was enough to convince himself that a career as a musician was what he wanted. After being introduced to progressive rock bands such as Yes, Rush, Genesis and Queen, Chico started to define his own style and also Apocalypse´s style. He has recently taken an interest in jazz music, both classic and contemporary.
